The term „Yin Yoga“ comes from the Chinese philosophical concept which describes Yin and Yang as opposites but interconnected forces. The Yin part is characterized as female and associated with the earth. In fact, Yin Yoga is about grounding ourselves.
Yin Yoga uniquely emerged, in addition to the Yoga traditions, from traditions such as Taoism, Kung Fu, Chinese philosophy & methodologies.
All poses are floor poses and you stay in them for several minutes, thereby allowing your muscles and mind to relax, sinking into deep stretches and getting targeted awareness of your bodie’s anatomy. The practice in itself is a training to become aware of tension your mind and body is holding and regulating it. With persistent practice, the body and muscles relax intuitively and release at your mental cue.
Yin Yoga is suitable for everybody! In fact, Yin Yoga is a practice where we are all invited to engage with our body each day as it is. Proper Yin Yoga practice is as if we are meeting our body for the first time, each time, in each asana no matter how many times we have practiced it before. It is not about how it looks but abouthowit feels.
Yin Yoga provides a meditative experience as it is a practice based on focusing the mind, like meditation practice, in this case that focus is on the sensations of the body.
Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body. The list of advantages of Yin Yoga is long starting at an increased range of motion and even giving us the possibilitiy to heal scar tissue…!!
